My air conditioner has been working fine but now it is getting hot and there is very little air flow coming out the vents.

This sounds like a classic case of a "freeze up". You have an ice build up on your evaporator coil that is blocking the air flow. The quick solution is to switch the unit to "fan only" for about 20  minutes. This shuts off the compressor and lets the coil warm up to melt off the ice, then the air flow will return. Now you can switch it back to the "cool" mode and it will work correctly again. If you have a ducted unit with a wall thermostat and this condition keeps happening you may have a bad freeze control switch. If you have a direct discharge unit with ceiling controls simply turn the thermostat to a little warmer setting to make the compressor cycle off now and then. This will prevent future freeze ups.
